Personal Statement
Spending her lifetime playing with clay, creating conceptual ceramics and experimental, functional porcelain pottery and jewellery. Aesthetically intriguing life-cast sculptures of the human form convey concepts of vulnerability and strength; provoking thoughts and evoking memories. Torsos draw upon the notion that women are strong and powerful: nurturing children and enticing loved ones while at the same time being vulnerable and sensitive. Metal stitches and wire fired into the sculptures enhance this concept as the metal becomes brittle meaning that what once was unbreakable is now delicate. Ribbons echo stitching of scars which are reminders of both positive and negative experiences; rich fabric or cushioned displays elevate to a higher status. Backs and hands have themes of strength and protection including a series based on Archangels encasing us in their protective circle of fire. Porcelain vases with metal staples and textured surfaces. Mixed media porcelain jewellery incorporating beads and watch parts enable visitors to take home smaller pieces which echo techniques and themes within the sculptures. Typography illustrations have become a fascinating outlet echoing themes and elements found in the sculptural work and incorporate meaningful empowering quotes. In 2003 Mim graduated in Ceramics at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff, now creating in West Sussex as Last Chance Ceramics.
