About the artist

Functional and decorative ceramics. Mixture of thrown and handbuilt forms.

Personal Statement

After a recent pilgrimage to Stoke on Trent, home of the UK's pottery manufacturing industry and of course the location for filming C4's The Great Pottery Throwdown program, I was inspired to create a few slip cast forms. These use some of the methods on display in the various working museums in Stoke. The new vessels sit well alongside my thrown and handbuilt work and I often combine two or more building techniques to complete my work. I am especially interested in making ceramics that have some sort of function - tealight holders, lanterns, jugs, platters etc - although glaze and decoration are an important facet of my work.
