About the artist
Contemporary oil paintings, and pen and ink drawings, inspired by the land and sky of mountainous environments
Personal Statement
Becky Rose is a contemporary landscape artist working from her self built studio at the bottom of her garden. Becky studied Fine Art at the University College Falmouth and has been shortlisted for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and the National Open Art where she has also been an Artist In Residence. Becky's work explores the natural wonder of mountainous landscapes and the emotional healing of the natural world. Within her paintings there is a sense of a wild place and a feeling of memory, creating familiarity and intrigue. Exploring the magnitude of mountainous environments takes Becky on many adventures, gathering evidence into her sketchbooks and memory. When in the studio, working on her paintings the field studies are put to one side, allowing her memory to be a primary source. This way of working allows her paintings to grow organically, creating an ephemeral quality within the work. The fascination of the wild elements of the natural world were imbedded into Becky at a young age, with yearly trips into the mountains of North Wales, that were filled with plenty of adventure and possibilities. The mountains have now become a second home, providing her with clarity and endless inspiration.
