What inspired you to take part in the Chichester Open Studios Art Trail 2025?

    Gaye Clear

I have been participating in the Chichester open studios for many years & still get very excited about opening my studio to visitors. When I first joined up I just had a few paintings on display in my lounge, I painted floral’s in watercolours. I transitioned to Seascapes in Acrylics & haven’t looked back. I work from my imagination applying different mediums to create textures & build up layers of paint which is blended to create atmosphere, visitors are always intrigued by the textures I create. Over the years my Husband built a small studio in the garden which was my little haven, I now have a much larger studio which enables me to hold Seascape workshops & have people travelling from all over the world to learn my techniques.

On the trail, I have a lot of visitors that come back year after year but also have so many new visitors each year.

What do you enjoy most about sharing your work with the public?

    Gaye Clear

I’m always so overwhelmed with peoples reactions when they first walk into the studio, the feedback I get is what a calm & tranquil atmosphere it is in the studio & the approach walking through our Cottage garden is all part of the experience- gardening being my other passion & working on it prior to the Trail for me I think just adds to creating a lovely atmosphere & and lot of people remember me as the lady with a wonderful garden.

Everyone is so friendly & love listening about my process of creating my Seascape paintings.

How do you prepare for opening your studio on the Art Trail and does it change the way you see your own work?

    Gaye Clear

I’ve always got a couple of paintings I’m working on so they can watch & ask questions. My confidence has grown & so happy to share my experience & thought process when I paint.

Over the years I have learned what works & what doesn’t, I aim to offer a lot of choices with different colour palettes different sizes, prints & cards so it caters to all.

So very much looking forward to opening my doors to welcome visitors in May.
