How does opening your studio to visitors impact your creative process?

    Laurie Avadis

It makes my practice worthwhile – to see and hear people’s reaction to my art. Some people would prefer to visit my studio in silence and others want to talk about my techniques and subject – I love to share my creative space.

Have you had any memorable conversations with visitors that influenced your work or perspective as an artist?

    Laurie Avadis

Very memorable – often people have never tried to paint or they have tried and failed with watercolours in particular. Sometimes, like me, they were not encouraged at school. I felt their enthusiasm for the medium having seen my work. I have had some wonderful conversations with children, people with dogs, people who are taking up art or finding time to appreciate art in retirement.

What is the most valuable part of being part of a local artistic community like Chichester Open Studios?

    Laurie Avadis

The opportunity not only to meet and discuss your work with visitors but fellow artists who are creating a few minutes from your studio.

Where can people find out more about your work beyond the Art Trail? Do you have a website, art classes or sell through a gallery?

    Laurie Avadis

    My website is laurieavadisart.com
My work can be seen at three galleries where I am a resident artist – Sage and Salt in Petersfield, Montague in Worthing and Artisann in East Wittering. My paintings have most recently appeared on the cover of Felpham Focus and in the second and third editions of UnderBelly Press magazine. I am compiling a list of people interested in attending a class in watercolour and ink painting to be held in the second half of this year.
