What inspired you to take part in the Chichester Open Studios Art Trail 2025?

    Linda Vine

This will be my fifth year of taking part in the Open Studios and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience and met many lovely people in the process. After moving into the area from Durham in lockdown, as soon as I heard about the Open Studios, well ‘Art Trail ‘at the time I decided to take part and have done it ever since. The Open Studios is an ideal time to chat to the locals and particularly because they appreciate art and creativity.

What do you enjoy most about sharing your work with the public?

    Linda Vine

As being an artist can be quite isolating in some ways I find it interesting to see how people respond to my work and helpful to get outside feedback. A couple who visited the first weekend one year seemed so taken with a particular painting that the lady said she was almost moved to tears. They proceeded to buy the painting and it was wonderful for me to know how much it meant to them.

What do you hope visitors take away from experiencing your studio and artwork?

    Linda Vine

I endeavor to make my studio a warm and welcoming place where visitors can hopefully pick up on the sense of wonder and tranquility that I feel when I spend time in the landscape and express that through my work.

How do you prepare for opening your studio on the Art Trail and does it change the way you see your own work?

    Linda Vine

A lot of work goes into preparing for the Open Studios, I know it’s hard to believe but my studio isn’t always this clean and tidy!
It is a wonderful way to get my work seen and increase awareness, which is of course very necessary. It is a refreshing change to do this in person and not just virtually. I am thankful that I have a dedicated space to show my work all the year round, although I would still take part if I had more limitations as it is such a valuable opportunity. I would say to anyone on the fence about taking part is just go for it and see what happens. Manage your expectations at the beginning by knowing that you will gain something from the experience even if it’s just things you learn how to do better. Last year was my best year yet in terms of sales but that has taken a while, particularly coming from a different area. ‘Nothing ventured, nothing gained’ as they say.
