About the artist
My practice includes oils, watercolours, mixed media, monotype prints and fused glass, and I produce landscapes, portraits and abstract work.
Personal Statement
I create art inspired inspired by a sense of place and connection, especially with the natural world. My journey as an artist began more than three decades ago with a love of portrait and landscape photography. In the time since my practice has expanded into a variety of media, all infused with a love of colour and texture. My artwork comes from the deep places within, expressing both the joy and the complexity of living life with passion. I am particularly interested in liminality and the emotions we attach to threshold moments in our lives.
I am currently studying formally at West Dean College, and am enjoying developing my technical skills and my creative practice. Previously, I worked as a vet and then as a vicar, and both have shaped how I seek to recreate the natural world in my work and have instilled in me a sense of awe of what makes us human and how we respond to our surroundings. In much of my work I aim to create something that has the potential to challenge or resonate with what is deep inside the viewer, to encourage both reflection and conversation.
