About the artist
Handwoven textiles in silk and other natural fibres. Individual scarves and clothes in simple shapes.
Personal Statement
I am addicted to fabric, its colours, textures and the way it moves when worn. Weaving it is like painting with yarn, taking ideas from my surroundings to create cloth using silk and other animal fibres. These individually handwoven fabrics are made into scarves and simply shaped clothes that hopefully will not date! I grew up in Bosham and now live and work in Chichester, having trained in London and Farnham, Surrey. Chichester Harbour is a frequent inspiration!! In 1970 I started my workshop, designing and weaving cloth to wear, often doing the dyeing and sometimes the spinning as well. I have taught part-time at both Farnham and West Dean College but in 1986 a Crafts Council major award enabled me to spend more time on production. I have exhibited nationally and abroad and have work in public and private collections worldwide. After 60 years of weaving I still love it!
