As a Norwegian/British citizen having grown up in a extreme and dramatic natural environment in which culture and nature is bold, direct and blunt, my paintings reflect the clear contrast I found in lifestyle when I moved to England.
I am interested in colour although I have found that it does not exist alone in painting. Pattern, shape, juxtaposition, tone, layers, transparency, hue and intensity, shiny and dull surfaces and the relationship with all these things affect it together.
Applying colour to canvas or paper using strong vibrant hues enables me to see how it can be used to stimulate peoples and my own emotion. Most of the time the colours are chosen subconsciously and only after some time, usually weeks, I can reflect back on how I felt back on the time. Thinking of colour combinations, using totally opposite colours to create an uneasiness feel or sometime using colours in a more harmonious way contrasts my past.
