Personal Statement
https://www.dianellufriosusman.com/
I work primarily in painting and drawing, using observational drawing as the foundation of my practise. From this base, I blend observation with experimentation allowing ideas to develop while keeping the essence of the original subject or feeling intact. My work explores identity, movement, nature, and the human figure, sometimes through a lens of abstraction.
Having lived in Spain and Iran, and with roots in Northern England, my visual language is shaped by a diverse cultural experience. The energy and passion of flamenco, the discipline of ballet, and my background in teaching art all contribute to my ideas and practise. I am also influenced by my father, who was a textile designer for Sandersons, whose floral patterns and use of colour have inspired my work.
Colour and shape are central to my abstract pieces, offering a wide sensory experience of colour and composition. My portraits of children express the equal worth of every child across the world, while works featuring historical figures call attention to events we must not forget. My flamenco paintings celebrate a dance rich in gypsy and Indian influences, capturing its dynamic beauty and cultural depth.
My work invites you to reflect, feel, and connect.
