About the artist
Handwoven bags with colourful cotton linings and handles, and some handwoven tapestries.
Personal Statement
I have always enjoyed the creative process of making things and so it was inevitable that I would end up at Art School. I studied at Camberwell School of Art and Crafts and left with a First-Class Honours degree in Woven Textiles and Fashion.
I spent my career in the fashion business, specialising in knitwear, then for a time I created handwoven tapestries. I’m now combining my love of weaving, art and fashion by making handwoven bags with colourful cotton linings and handles. Each is woven individually on my 16-shaft hand loom using many different techniques. My favourite technique is doubleweave, where positive and negative graphic images can be created in the same piece of weaving. I prefer to use British wool, much of which I hand dye. I also use mohair, alpaca and hand dyed silk and cotton.
