Personal Statement

Cherie Lubbock is an artist dedicated to exploring the delicate balance between intuition and materiality.

Lubbock’s artistic practice is rooted in spontaneity and exploration. She works intuitively, often responding to found objects that inspire her. By assembling these with her own creations, she aims to capture the energy and joy that permeates the creative process. Each piece emerges from a dialogue between materials, often celebrating the beauty of happy accidents that occur along the way.

In Lubbock’s painting, she embraces a similar intuitive approach. She responds to each mark and area of colour as she paints, allowing the work to evolve organically. Initial mark-making leads to a thoughtful process of addition and subtraction, using oil paint, crayons, pens, and collage. This layering creates a unique voice for each piece, reflecting the dynamic interplay of materials.

Through her art, she invites viewers to engage with the interplay of materials and emotions, fostering a connection that transcends the ordinary. She believes in the transformative power of art and strives to create spaces that evoke curiosity and introspection.
