About the artist
Contemporary artworks made using paper and stitch creating imaginary landscapes and new work based on the myth of Persephone.
Personal Statement
I make contemporary paper artworks, working primarily with paper embellished with embroidery to create imaginary, abstract landscapes, sculptural wall pieces and handmade paper vessels. Using hand-coloured papers and thin thread, dense lines of stitch are overlaid like paint to build up depths of colour.
I am inspired by the sky, particularly at dawn and dusk and try to capture the atmosphere of fleeting moments in time and reflect the constantly changing light.
More recent work is based on the myth of Persephone and uses natural plant dyes and sustainable plant papers, exploring themes of fragility of the natural world.
I am a member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen, the International Association of Papermakers and Artists (IAPMA) and an associate member of Art Space.
Since leaving University of Chichester, my work has been exhibited through the UK and Europe and most recently in paper exhibitions in Shanghai, China, Toyota, Japan, the Atkinson Gallery, Street and Bankside Gallery London.
