About the artist

Variety of techniques, materials, mediums from weaving to inks and tinwork.

Personal Statement

Canadian born, Deborah Porter, suffered from a severe brain injury over a decade ago. This left her disabled in many ways, much of which were invisible to others. Through sheer determination, she used arts and crafts as a form of self-therapy, spending literally hundreds if not thousands, of hours working to regain so much of what she had lost both physically and mentally.

Being one who loves to learn, she has tried her hands at using many different mediums, techniques, and materials, She will be exhibiting a variety of pieces she has created over the years, including weaving, beading, encaustic waxing, acrylic, and tinwork.

Deborah finds it difficult to call herself an artist, but rather describes herself as a survivor who loves to play with colour and texture, and she always does her best to encourage others to simply 'have a go'.
