Ceramic Hand-built terracotta pieces: textural poppies, female forms, play with clay.
Personal Statement
I'm a ceramic hand builder working from my garden studio; I choose to work in low-fired terracotta because I enjoy its rich, warm colour and the distinctive texture it takes from my hands. My time with clay is essential headspace, providing a vital creative anchor as a long-term carer.
My creative life has always been rooted in community. During covid restrictions, my daughter and I made and sold Christmas decorations from our front garden to raise funds for her charity, a wonderful exercise in making and collaboration.
My deep passion for the poppy was sparked by seeing the emotional impact of the London ceramic poppies in the media and receiving one as a gift. As a hand builder, every piece is unique. You’ll see my textural, resilient poppies alongside small, figurative female forms, fun novelty money boxes, and whatever else I'm experimenting with.
This is my first Open Studio, and I'm excited to finally open my door to share my process, the hands-on transformation of a lump of clay into a finished, joyful object.
