About the artist
I repurpose finest quality worsted and tweed fabrics from once cherished tailored jackets and coats into highly individual handmade bags.
Personal Statement
I originally trained as a menswear designer and launched bags of style when a friend approached me to repurpose her father’s suit into something she could use every day.
Annually over 350,000 tons of clothing is put into landfill in the UK. Man-made materials have got ever cheaper fuelling this over consumption and it has become normal to simply use garments once and then throw them away. Most of the fabrics used are not natural materials, they are difficult or too costly to recycle, so go straight to landfill, or worse still, are fly tipped.
I have always appreciated superior quality worsted and woollen fabrics their use of natural fibres and hardwearing qualities associated with fine tailoring. Bags of style repurposes cherished tailored jackets and exclusive outerwear into highly individual bags. The left-over sleeves are made into zipped purses, and the waste offcuts are sent to a textile repurposing centre.
No two bags the same and that is a guarantee.
