Fruit and flowers! – they may be staple of still life painters – but just look at the detail here!!
Liz Shippam – Venue 7 – a botanical artist with a high technical ability – take note of how she works:

“I begin a piece of work with a detailed, analytical drawing of my subject. I then observe the colours and mix my paints to match these accurately. I begin to build up layers of colour, using very diluted watercolour paint. Each layer is left to dry before the next is applied. Working in this way allows the white of the paper to shine through and produces a painting with vibrant colours. Finally, more concentrated paint is applied with tiny brushes to capture the fine detail of the subject.”
