About the artist
Fine Art Photography - predominantly of the natural world including inspiring local landscapes, seascapes, wildlife and flowers
Personal Statement
I take my inspiration from the natural world, perhaps unsurprisingly for an evolutionary biologist and naturalist. For me, photography is about capturing a moment, a mood, a feeling. Capturing the essence of my subjects, whether they be Homo sapiens and their habitat or the myriad of other species - plant, animal or fungi - with whom we share this intricate and interconnected world. In my work I flip the current - and very reasonable - zeitgeist around the climate and biodiversity crisis to celebrate and inspire with the amazing biodiversity we do still have and I'm fortunate to share my work with the UN Convention on Wetlands (Ramsar) based in Switzerland, and charities closer to home to do this.
I favour using optics that subtly distort reality: a telephoto lens that compresses a scene and can create beautiful soft backgrounds to isolate a subject; or, a wide-angled approach that exaggerates and create dynamism in an image.
I hope you will enjoy my images!
