About the artist
Expressive and atmospheric watercolour: landscape, seascape, semi-figurative, abstract and life paintings
Personal Statement
Bridget began Chinese brush painting at 8. On graduating from Bournemouth College of Art she worked in London as a fashion illustrator/consultant. A professional artist for fifty years, Bridget has used, and taught, most media, but watercolour is still her chosen medium. As she says:
"Watercolour is perfect for portably responding to transitory sensations, sensitivity to mood, weather conditions and to my personal approach, which - at its best - is loose and immediate.
A scudding cloud, gliding bird, dancing people, setting sun, lapping waves, passing idea.. can be the gasping inspiration, or inbreath. Honed skills and love of jeopardy allow me to respond directly to the rhythm and texture of life - an absorption where ego surrenders, sighing, to universal connection - a breathing out.
If a flicker of that magical sensation transmits to viewer, or student, I feel deep joy. My aim is to savour and share that connection - working with, never in control of, water. Hence watercolour is MY life teacher.”
Bridget has written two practical art books (signed copies of which will be on sale):
‘Life Drawing - a Journey to Self-expression’, 2003
'Painting Expressive Watercolour’, 2014
