Wendy Farley
About the artist
Ceramic vessels inspired by textures found in nature. Work is coloured with oxides and smoked fire.
Personal Statement
Wendy's practice centres on the exploration of form and it's relationship to natural elements, engaging with the tension between symmetry and asymmetry. Through the interplay of textured, energetic mark-making and moments of stillness, her work invites a dialogue between movement and quietude, seeking to evoke a deeper understanding of spatial and emotional balance.
A key aspect of Wendy's creative inquiry lies in the intersection between landscape, memory and emotion. The visual landscape of Wendy's work is informed by and reflects the inherent dualities within the architectural qualities of the natural world.
Wendy's work is either thrown and altered or hand built using coils. Her processes incorporate both smoke firing and electric kiln techniques, utilizing slips, oxides and underglazes. This approach balances intentionality with the unpredictability of material transformation.
