About the artist
Richly stitched machine embroidered textiles that explore qualities of colour, light and texture observed in land, sea and sky
Personal Statement
I studied Textiles and Embroidery at Goldsmiths School of Art. Although I had wanted to study painting, I soon discovered that the rich variety of threads offered me something very different with an exciting range of colours and textures. Using my old Bernina, I stitch onto painter’s canvas without using a hoop. This can cause undulations in the fabric, adding movement and texture. I draw and paint with threads. After leaving my lecturing post at Chichester University in 1997 to concentrate on my artwork, I have lectured and exhibited my work widely in the UK, across Europe, New Zealand and in the USA. I am a Fellow of the Society of Designer Craftsmen, and for many years I co-curated their annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries London.
