About the artist
Contemporary sculpture
Personal Statement
Tim produces both large and small sculptures, mostly welded out of hammered/bent steel or copper sheet. Newer works are generally abstract but allude to figures/bodies.
Themes:
• Decorative plates – inspired by Aboriginal shields and their ancestral patterns.
• Textiles ‘Patterns’ - cut, folded, bent, tailored like a good suit of clothing. Collars and pinstripes alluding to social structures.
• Narratives – simple texts referring to personal stories and memories.
• The Body - conceptual links via ideas of function, metaphorical links via. space, size, shape.
Approach: Tim sees making Art as a way of finding things out, making unexpected connections.
Inspiration: Tim takes particular inspiration from the British ‘Geometry of Fear’ sculpture movement from the 1950s (i.e. Paolozzi, Reg Butler and Lyn Chadwick) amongst others.
Tim is Programme Coordinator for the Fine Art BA at the University of Chichester.
