Abstract painting, printmaking and sculpture with an emphasis on colour.
Personal Statement
Chérie Lubbock is an artist dedicated to exploring the balance between intuition and materiality. After completing her Master of Fine Arts at the University of Sussex with Distinction in 2019, she established her studio, where she has been creating ever since.
Lubbock’s practice is rooted in spontaneity. She works intuitively, responding to found objects that inspire her. By combining these with her own creations, she captures the energy and joy of the creative process, celebrating the beauty of happy accidents.
In her painting, she embraces a similar approach, allowing each mark and area of colour to inform the next. This organic evolution involves a thoughtful process of addition and subtraction using acrylic paint, crayons, and collage, resulting in a unique voice for each piece.
Lubbock enjoys experimenting with various mediums, allowing them to inspire one another. Her installations and sculptures, grounded in the history of found materials, embody a fragile beauty that reflects the tightrope between sense and nonsense, desire and unease.
Through her art, she invites viewers to engage with the interplay of materials and emotions, fostering connections that transcend the ordinary.
