Geraldine St. Aubyn Hubbard
About the artist
Hand woven textiles in silk and other natural fibres. Individual scarves, wraps and clothes in simple shapes.
Personal Statement
Geraldine St. Aubyn Hubbard is addicted to fabric, its colours, textures and the way it moves when worn. Making it is like painting in yarn, taking ideas from her surroundings to create cloth using silk and or wool. These individually woven fabrics are made into scarves and simply shaped clothes that hopefully will not date! She grew up in Bosham and now lives and works in Chichester, having trained in London and Farnham, Surrey. In 1970 she started her workshop, designing and weaving cloth, often doing the dyeing and spinning as well. She taught part-time at both Farnham and West Dean College, Chichester. In 1986 a Craft Council major award enabled her to concentrate on production. She has exhibited nationally and abroad and has work in public and private collections worldwide.
