About the artist
Handprinted reduction and monochrome linocuts inspired by female beauty, strength and empowerment.
Personal Statement
Bimbi Urquhart lives in Tangmere, West Sussex. She started her career as a professional viola player and enjoyed success playing with orchestras in London and the UK, including the Philharmonia Orchestra and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. She also recorded with Take That and Bastille and appeared at festivals with the latter, including Glastonbury Festival.
In 2020, she began making monochrome and reduction colour linocuts. Her musical connections have led to collaborations with distinguished classical composers and ensembles, creating poster and programme images, logos and album artwork for Spotify. Her artwork ‘I’m Fine’ featured on the cover of the European String Teachers’ Association magazine, Arco, for mental health awareness week in 2021.
Bimbi has exhibited at the Oxmarket Contemporary Gallery in Chichester, Brighton Open Houses art trail, the 606 Jazz Club, St Cuthbert’s in Earl’s Court and Chichester Cathedral. She also sells artworks online to UK and international collectors.
Bimbi’s art is focused on empowering women. She creates strong images around themes recognised by many women, including self-worth, freedom, body acceptance and motherhood. She will soon be embarking on a new chapter as a solo mother and is enthusiastic to see what this brings to her creative practice.
