Sandra Hawkins

My art journey started when I retired in 2019 and developed during lockdown.

I have had no formal training apart from doing a few art classes and workshops locally. My medium of choice is watercolour. My paintings have bright colours, although sometimes more subtle. I use a limited colour pallet for impact and I am always very mindful of creating mood and texture.

I began to loosen up my art by adding textures and marks and also being more relaxed about the outcome. A lot of my paintings are from my imagination or from a photograph used as a trigger for a subject which then takes on its own journey, so my style is usually semi abstract. Many times I adopt a 'what happens if' approach with surprising end results.
