Personal Statement
John Robinson comes from a painting family; his father and brother were professional graphic and fine artists but John graduated in agronomy and developed a busy career with I.C.I./Zenica, latterly in business management which involved a lot of time overseas.
In those days painting was a relaxing hobby.
Since retiring John has developed his work although, apart from the family background and some short courses, John is self-taught and his work continues to evolve.
Painting in watercolour John covers a wide range of subject matter including landscapes and animal life. He derives particular inspiration and pleasure from the form and mood of the Sussex and Hampshire countryside, especially the downs.
While his interpretations tend towards the literal, he aims to exploit the spontaneity and freshness of watercolour.
His work today is popular and he exhibits widely in Sussex and Hampshire through galleries, group exhibitions and art societies. He is a full member of the Association of Sussex Artists and participates annually in the Chichester "Open Studios " art trail. Purchasers of his work have come from all over Britain and many countries overseas.
