Personal Statement
Clay has been a life-long companion allowing Mim to create aesthetically intriguing mix-media sculptures celebrating the female form. Aesthetically intriguing life-cast sculptures of the human form convey concepts of vulnerability and strength; provoking thoughts and evoking memories. A theme running through her work draws upon the notion that women are strong and powerful; nurturing children and enticing loved ones while at the same time being vulnerable and sensitive. Metal or rich fabric incorporated in the clay body elevates her sculpture highlighting the concept of being precious.
Typography illustrations echo themes and elements found in Mim’s sculptural work, utilising meaningful empowering quotes which gives them a melancholic enchantment. A current project involves musicians and lyrics from their songs Mim has admired for many moons.
Mixed media porcelain jewellery incorporating beads and watch parts enable visitors to take home smaller pieces. These tiny sculptures mirror techniques within her work as a sculptural business card.
Mim studied Ceramics in Cardiff graduating in 2003 and now lives in the Witterings.
