Christine Burgess
About the artist
Large figurative ceramics.
Personal Statement
Chrissie Burgess is a sculptor specialising in figurative ceramics. Her work delves into the complexities of the human condition, using stoneware clay as her primary medium. The groggy nature of the clay lends her sculptures a distinctive sandstone-like texture, often accentuated by the application of iron oxide for added depth and character.
Chrissie recently graduated in BA Fine Art. Her large-scale heads are inspired by Ashanti art which blends traditional influences with contemporary aesthetics. These striking sculptures are not only evocative in form but are also designed to harmonise with outdoor environments, making them powerful focal points in garden settings.
